Tequila first came about in the 16th century by natives of Mexico. This liquor originates from the Blue Agave plant where it sugars are reduced and used in the distillation process. Tequila must contain at least 51 percent blue Agave sugar in order to be classified as a tequila. The remaining per centage is made up of other natural sugars.
